Tourist Places in Kozhikode
Kozhikode, formerly called Calicut was the traditional capital of Northern Kerala under the Samuthiri rule. Calicut, the most important city of Malabar region of Kerala, was a leading trading centre for spices on the West Coast of India during the medieval period. The place is historically famous as the Portuguese led by Vasco da Gama first landed in India, at Kappad near Kozhikode in 1498 AD. He was the first European to reach India via the sea route, around the southern cape of Africa. The major tourist destinations include Pazhassirajah Museum, Art Gallery, Kozhikode Beach, Thikkoti Lighthouse, and Dolphin's point.

Pazhassirajah Museum
Pazhassirajah Museum is located in East Hill, 5 Km from Kozhikode city. This rich Museum displays the historical past of Kozhikode and displays the ancient Mural painting,antique bronzes,old coins,models of temples, and megalithic structures.
Kozhikode Art Gallery
The Art gallery holds an important position in the Indian art circle because of its association with Raja Ravi Varma, the first Indian painter to make use of oil colours. The paintings of this great artist generally revolve around the portrayal of mythological events, royal portraits and day-to-day life.
Dolphin's Point
At the Dolphin's point one can see in the early hours of the morning dolphins playing in the sea. The beach, 2kms from Kozhikode town center is a along stretch of tree lined sand, popular with the local people because of the lions club park(Children's Park), the lighthouse and the two piers. People love taking long walks here in the evenings, because of the lovely evening breeze.
Kappad Beach
Kappad beach is 16kms from Kozhikode, and is where Vasco-da-Gama landed on 27th May 1498, with 170 men in three vessels. A small stone monument at the beach commemorates a memorial, which marks the landing place. This rock studded pleasant beach is locally known as "
Kappakadavu
. An interesting feature of the landscape is the sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea. The ancient temple on the rock is believed to be 800 years old
Manachira
Manchiria is the heart of the city, which cites important institutions like town hall and the public library. One of Kozhikode's oldest buildings, the common wealth trust office is situated here. The large pond and the park are well known landmarks. The musical fountain inside the maidan and meticulously landscaped lawns surrounded by traditional Kerala style architectural buildings are a fascination for visitors.
