Rooms & Facilities
Muthoot cardamom county has three thypes of cottages - Periyar Cottage, County Cottage and Suite Rooms. Each of these cozy cottages has spacious bedrooms and a private verandah overlooking the scenic natural beauty of the resort. The rooms are equipped with all modern facilities including CCTV, 24 hr room service and attached bathrooms with hot and cold running water. Luxury suites with all modern amenities are also available.
Restaurant & Dining
A multi cuisine restaurant, appropriately named 'All Spice', provides Ethnic Fusion Cuisine which has a variety of gastronomic delights. With a mild breeze caressing you, here's the perfect setting for many an idyllic meal. The expansive open air terrace that can accommodate large number of guests, offers the ideal venue for informal parties, grills, barbeques and candlelight dinner.
About Thekkady & Periyar Tiger Reserve
Nestled in the southern Western Ghats mountain range of peninsular India, Periyar Tiger Reserve is the oldest and largest Protected Areas of Kerala (925 Sq.km). Predominantly an evergreen biotype with great scenic beauty and rich assemblage of flora and fauna, Periyar epitomizes the opulent ecological and cultural diversity typical of tropical rain forests. Sabarimala the famous forest shrine of Lord Ayyappa, visited by around 5 million people annually, is situated on the western flank of the reserve. People oriented and park centered community based eco-tourism is the hallmark of Periyar Tiger Reserve.
The Periyar Tiger Reserve covers an area of 925 Sq. Kms and has a diverse habitat which includes tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests, grasslands and eucalyptus. The Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Its geomorphology, diversity of wild life and scenic beauty, attracts tourists from all over the world. This is the only sanctuary in India where one can have the unique experience of viewing wild life at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake.
The wild elephants that come down to play in the lake are the greatest attraction of Periyar. There are about 2000 species of flowering plants, 145 varieties of orchids, 35 species of mammals - elephants, Gaur (Indian Bison), Leopard, Tiger, Barking Deer, Bear, Nilgiri Langur and the highly endangered Lion tailed Macaque to name a few. The reserve also has 45 species of reptiles which includes the famous King Cobra, Russels, Viper and Fresh water Tortoise. 27 varieties of Amphibians have also been recorded. More than 320 species of birds have been identified. Some of them are the Malabar Parakeet, Wayanad Laughing Thrush, Ruforus Babbler and the endangered Great Malabar Hornbill, the state bird of Kerala. .
